so i went to a wedding (my mom's friend from her old work...blah blah blah you don't care) last friday, and i was suddenly struck by an amazing idea for a story. it's like a chick flick, except i don't throw up at the thought of it. (although that may be just a tiny infinitesimal amount of not fair: i thought 'catch and release' looked good, and that's pretty chick-flicky. but it's also got kevin smith.) but anyway, i wanted to post the story somewhere online, so i chose here. i would have posted it on fanfiction.net, except that it's not a fanfiction. (i seriously--well, okay, completely jokingly--considered writing an author's note saying something like: 'this is set in the world of harry potter. but all the characters are muggles and they don't know any of the main characters.' and posting it on ff.net like that, but i decided against it. as is obvious.)

IMPORTANT TO NOTE: it may or may not be clear right away, but the main character is a man named Rick. yes, he's gay. if you take issue with that, please respond to my story in an intelligent and constructive manner, and i will be happy to argue with you in kind. or just agree to disagree. or ignore the comment altogether, as i'm not on livejournal very often.

oh yeah, and i'll probably post revisions later on. so you can update that word doc on your computer you copied my story into to edit out all the grammatical errors and misplaced commas. (*cough* noooooo, i don't do that! *cough*) this is a first draft, so don't be mean....please?

alright....how do i attach word documents....ok. can't figure it out, so i'll just use another entry for it.

yeah...i really ought to try that sometime. there could be vague references to really strange events like random ford anglias bobbing along in the clouds, without any real explanation or follow-up. "He looked up contentedly, and quickly his tranquil expression changed to one of consternation, and he blinked and rubbed his eyes. There had appeared to be a car in the sky, with a couple of teenagers driving it and eating butterscotches. But no, when he looked again, it was gone. Must have dozed off a bit and dreamed the whole thing."
or something like that. and then the rest of the story just barrels onward without referring back to that brief hallucination/insight into the wizarding world.
could be fun, eh?

Lol. You should do that. I love it when writers make little random references that only readers who have read their other books get, or little references that connect things. My best example would be Harry Potter. In book 3 when the mouse turns out to be a person in disguise. It is amazing (in my opinion) that an author can have little details like that planned out so far in advance that they become common place before they are revelealed as usuasal.

i totally agree. daniel pinkwater does that kind of thing as well (i think it's daniel pinkwater--if anyone who knows his stuff reads this comment, he's the one who recurrently writes about hoboken, right? been a while since i've read anything by him.) but dp's little references are more like an inside joke than important plot points like scabbers. i love jk rowling. she is amazing at putting things together in her stories. how far have you read in harry potter anyway? are you as excited about the seventh book coming out as i am? (bet you're not--i'm pretty psyched. i mean, we'll finally get to find out the truth about snape's character, it'll have the final showdown with harry and voldy, maybe some of my millions of questions will finally be answered!) yay!

I haven't read anything by Daniel Pinkwater. I might have to add him to my never-shrinking list of books/writers I need to read. I have a lot of trouble finidng time to read these days. But, yeah, I am looking forward to the new Harry Potter book. I'll probably get really excited about 2 days before it is released. Right now it's more of a passive anticipation somewhere in the back of my mind because I have a couple of events to take care of between now and the end of July and they are taking up all of my excitement/anxious-ness right now. Lol. But the new book with definitely find a spot at the very top of my reading list when it comes out and I will probably finish it in 2 days even though I haven't found time to read much of anything else in weeks. Lol.

Oh yeah, I hear you got a prefect score on the SAT. Congrats!! I am proud to say I know a genius. ^___^ So do you have any idea where you'd like to attend college because you could probably go pretty much anywhere. :-)

actually, that's sort of a lie. i came short a hundred points. but thank you! i was surprised when i found out. very surprised. i thought there might of been a glitch on the website. ^^;;
(colleges: thinking about california colleges mainly: berkeley, stanford, uc davis would be nice if i could get in, but i also like san diego state and ucla and the claremont mckenna colleges.)
mmmmmonkeys to you too, little strangely bald looking anthropomorphic cat.

Lol. The cat is from a comic who's name I can't remember and I don't especially like the cat in the comic, but another comic that I read occassionally makes fun of the cat and my old roommate had a monkey joke, so when I saw the icon, I had to take it. Lol.

I know someone who lives in California and decided to go to college in Arkansas- the nephew of one of my friends. His top colleges were Berkley and Hendrix (in Conway, AR), but he picked Hendrix...probably because Berkley was too expensive for his parents...

yeah, the video's pretty funny. have you ever seen the one with charlie the unicorn and fairyland? you might not think it's funny when you first watch it, but it tends to grow on people.
